This quiet section near the end
of the Verdi Requiem is one of the moments I most eagerly anticipate
whenever I play the piece. In contrast to the clamorous intensity
of much of the rest of the work this is one of the most beautifully
peaceful things Verdi ever wrote.
Originally for Soprano Soloist
with SATB choir a capella, this transcription works well for
a quintet, or for Solo with trombone choir accompaniment. The
Solo part is high enough that Alto trombone is appropriate. I
have included a set of alternate lower parts in this publication,
which may work better in some situations than my originally chosen
key.
This movement can be very effective
when paired with the Sanctus
which I have transcribed for eight trombones.
