This quiet section near the end of the
Verdi Requiem is one of the moments I most eagerly anticipate
whenever I play the piece. It is such a contrast to the clamorous
intensity of much of the rest of the work, and I think it is
one of the most beautifully peaceful things Verdi ever wrote.
The original version is for Soprano Soloist
with full SATB choir a capella. This transcription works well
for either quintet, or Solo with horn choir accompaniment.
